GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT ISO 50001 & ENERGY MANAGEMENT

Energy management is an active control of a company’s energy-related aspects to optimize energy usage and, in turn, increase the company’s profitability.

The ISO 50001 energy management system is a strategic management tool with a set of interconnected or interacting elements which are used to establish energy policy and objectives within a company, as well as processes and procedures to meet these objectives.

The application of the international standard for energy management, along with the supplementary requirements outlined in the Danish Energy Agency’s specification, can assist individual companies in achieving more efficient utilization of available energy sources, improving competitiveness, and reducing greenhouse gas emissions and other related environmental impacts.

Energy management according to ISO 50001 and the Danish Energy Agency’s specification can be briefly described as focusing on key aspects of energy-saving efforts. These include the company’s energy policy, organization, implementation and operation of the energy policy, energy planning and review, and ultimately certification under control and evaluation.
